A Galway Girl

Tig Choili

The Traveling Blonde and I at a wonderful Traditional public house called Tig Chóilí

As The Traveling Mustache, I've had the opportunity to visit some incredible places around the world, but my recent 3-night stay in Galway, Ireland with The Traveling Blonde during the Galway Races was truly special. It was a perfect blend of excitement and traditional Irish fare.

For those of you who may not be familiar, the Galway Races is an annual Irish horse-racing festival that starts on the last Monday of July every year. Held at Ballybrit Racecourse in Galway, It's a week-long celebration that brings together locals and tourists alike, and it's an experience that I'll never forget.

We arrived in Galway on a sunny afternoon and made our way straight to the track. The energy and excitement was palpable, and we were immediately drawn in by the lively atmosphere. The races themselves were thrilling, and we couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement and the hats! We placed a few bets, and even though we didn't win big, it was all part of the fun.

The busiest days of the festival are Wednesday, when the Galway Plate is held, and Thursday, when the Galway Hurdle and Ladies' Day take place. However After a day at the races, we were ready to explore Galway's famous nightlife. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The city is home to a plethora of pubs and bars, each with its own unique atmosphere and clientele. But the Latin Quarter, specifically, stood out to us, with its charming and cozy pubs, it was the perfect spot for a lively night out. We found ourselves hopping from one establishment to the next, chatting with the locals and soaking up the vibrant culture. We met a great group of people in one pub, who were so welcoming and friendly, they showed us around the city and we had a great time.

But perhaps the best part of our stay in Galway was the sense of community that we found there. Everywhere we went, we were struck by the warmth and hospitality of the locals. Whether we were at the races or in a pub, we felt like we were part of a big, happy family. It's that sense of community that really makes Galway special, and it's something that we'll always treasure.

In conclusion, our 3-night stay in Galway, Ireland during the Galway Races while being much too short, was an experience that I'll never forget. From the thrilling horse races to the lively nightlife and the warm and friendly locals, there was never a dull moment. And I can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for a truly authentic and memorable Irish experience. The Latin Quarter is a must-see spot. I cant recommend just one bar because they are all a safe bet on that street, but if i could name a few it would be Tig Choili, Tigh Neachtain, and possibly the kings head. i hope anyone reading this gets a chance to experience this wonderful city.
